Describing Photographs

Photo 1:

Describing the Photo:
This image has a power line, a woman with laundry and rubber boots and gloves, clothes, a ladder, and a green landscape. The woman is on a ladder hanging clothing to dry on a power line. In the photo you can see a house to the right behind the power lines. In the foreground there is the grass as well as the lady, the ladder. and part of the power line. In the midground theres trees, rocks, and a house/barn. In the background theres the sky and the trees in the distance.

Impressions of the Scene:
The woman looks as if she is doing her everyday chore. it looks very casual and normal. The viewer is focused on the woman and the colorful clothing on the power line that has contrast with its surroundings. This photo is very colorful and bright. This photo makes you feel relaxed and at peace, despite how what the woman is doing is dangerous. This photo makes you think about how safe this really is.  The photo mainly uses contrast and color. You can see also that the woman has rubber gloves and boots, maybe to prevent her from being electrocuted. I'm not sure if there is a message in this photograph.

Photo 2:

Describing the Photo:
This photo was taken most likely at a lake during the daytime. This photo contains A man, a kayak, a lake, fish, and trees in the background. The man is standing in his kayak, holding the paddle.  The water slowly turns into geometric shapes, looking like its been shattered. There are dead fish where the water is 'shattered'. The foreground in this photo is the shattered water and dead fish. The man in the kayak is the midground, and the background is the lake and trees.

Impressions of the Scene:
The man in the photo looks confused or slightly shocked at how the water stops and breaks. The viewer's attention is drawn to the shattered water and then to the kayak and man due to the color of the kayak and because the ma is standing tall in the middle of the photo. This photo is very right with lots of reflecting light. This photo makes me concerned, why is the water shattering? The water looks like shattered glass. The photographer uses light and color to make the photo more interesting.

Photo 3:

Describing the Photo:
This photograph is probably compromised of different photos. Two possibly being a photo of the house and a photo of the fish. It's an image of a landscape but with a twist; you can see the lake and landscape as if it were cut in half, and that makes the giant fish visible. The fish takes up the entirety of the lake/river and a house and rocks are its back peaking out of the water. In this image you can also see a small boat on the water and the trees and bottom of the lake frame the photo. The fish is in the middle of the photo. The background is the trees in the back and the sky.

Impressions of the Scene:
The fish in the image seems sort of trapped since it is so big and takes up all of the space in the water. The viewer's attention is immediately drawn the the fish and then drawn the the red house. The red helps the house draw your attention. This photo is dark where the water is but very bright on land where the light can hit it.  This photo makes me feel like I'm in a different world where things like this are possible. The photographer uses color to draw your attention to certain points in the photo.

Photo 4:

Describing the Photo:
This image has a man with a small saw, a sled, an icy landscape, and fish trapped in ice. The man looks as if he has cut the fish straight out of the ice with his saw, and is now carrying them back by sled. In the photo, you can see that it is very cold due to the ice and the man's clothing and cold breath. It is also almost night time since the sun is setting. Here the foreground is the man pulling the sled, he is toward the right side of the photo. The background is the trees and the sunset.

Impressions of the Scene:
The man in the image seems very worn out and tired from cutting out these fish. The viewer's attention is drawn toward the man and then to the saw, then to the sled. The man has a contrast with the sunset, drawing your attention, then the orange color of the saw draws your attention. Finally, the line connecting the man to the sled draws your eye there. This photo is dark but still has hints of color. This photo makes me feel impressed with his method of getting fish, regardless if it's realistic or not. The photographer uses lots of contrast in this photo. They probably wanted to show and outside the box idea with this photo.

Photo 5:

Describing the Photo:
This image has two doors, and man in a robe and slippers and holding a mug. There's a lamp on the ground. There is a green landscape and you can see stars in the sky. The man is walking from one open door to the next, the one he is walking to has stickers on the door and a lamp next to it sitting on the grass.  The man and the doors are the focal point of this piece and are in the center, with the man slightly to the left. In the background you can see the stars/galaxy in the cloudy night sky.

Impressions of the Scene:
The man in this is in his night clothes and seems very tired and relaxed. The viewer's attention is on the two doors that are brightly lit, and attention is also on the man walking. The photo is very dark except for the bright lights of the doors and lamp. The photo makes me feel intrigued, I want to know the meaning behind this photo. The photographer uses light and color to draw attention to the doors.

Photo 6:

Describing the Photo:
In this image, there is a man, a bike, a path, and trees. The man is off his bike and looking at the path ahead that suddenly is completely vertical. There is green landscape all around. Your eye is drawn to the man and the cliff, as they stand out from the rest of the photo. You then see the man's bike behind him. The man is toward the top of the photo while the cliff is in the center. The background is composed of the path and trees.

Impressions of the Scene:
The man in the photo seems very confused as to why the path suddenly goes straight down. The man and the cliff are the focal points. The photographer uses perspective and color. This photo is confusing but I think it has a meaning about how there are always hard things in life.

Photo 7:

Describing the Photo:
In this photo, there is a man, water, rocks, an art supplies box, a palette, a brush, and a canvas. The man is painting the landscape but is also there is an effect where it looks as if he is part of the painting as well and must be colored in. The man and the canvas are the foreground, the rocks nearby are the midground, and everything else (water, tree, sky) are the background.

Impressions of the Scene:
The person in this photo seems very relaxed and immersed in his artwork. The attention is immediately drawn to the canvas and then to the man. This photo is beautiful and inspiring, it's very creative. This photo is very bright with lots of grey and blue tones. The brighter blue on the canvas is what originally draws your eye toward it.
